Colombian Volunteer Ladies was founded in Washington by Lucía Holguín de Vázquez, wife of the UN ambassador, with the goal of helping hospitals, foundations and charitable organizations by sending financial support and hospital equipment.
Chapters were established in Atlanta, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, Bogotá, London and Miami. The Miami chapter became independent in 1971 and opened its Weston chapter in 2001.

Born in Armenia, Quindío, Colombia. Studied in Cali, Santiago de Chile and New York. Living in the United States since 1985, when she joined Colombian Volunteer Ladies. She has been president from 1991 to 1993, and from 1996 to the present.
